Teaching design to non designers
Not everything is acceptable. Creators need to be positive but also super critical. At the heart of the design process, there is the organization of the critique: students question, critique, suggest new ideas for the projects.
What are the criteria?
-
They point out inconsistencies between the project and the user/client’s desire
-
They go from details to more global structure and architecture: using different scales/ lenses
-
They switch back and forth between abstract vision and tangible features

Design thinking is not enough!

Why?
Basically because it considers ideation as the starting point and foundation of design: it is very convenient for non designers but it is not entirely relevant to the design practice.
Design worlds method
in the design worlds method, we start with tangible materials and experiences as the foundation of design. Design worlds are expanding: they create the desire to aggregate new people, new talents, new materials, new technologies.
NO post-its sessions made of words
In our class, we teach the “design worlds” method that we developed at the Codesign Lab. Design worlds are made of shapes, spaces, people, materials, narratives, figures, fields of tensions.
